Tayvallich boasted a Drama Club from 1962 until the late 1980's. They performed a pantomime every year, and also entered a more serious production in the County Drama Festival.
In 1971 they won the SCDA District Festival, following winning "Best Setting" in 1970. In 1974 they were winners again in the "Best Comedy" award at the Ardrishaig Festival.
In 1981 the club was the winner at the Argyll Drama Festival with their production of "Nothing ever happens" by Robert S McLeish.
In 1994 the club was reformed, by a group with lots of enthusiasm but little or no experience. Not unexpectedly, early discussions took place at the Inn were ideas were painstakingly (or should that be painlessly?), thrashed into the outline for "A Postcard from Tayvallich", Easter 1995. In fact, all the performances have begun this way.
In 1966 the Club performed its own version of "Grease".
This was followed by "T V Allich".
The 1999 show was "Jungle Juice" (based on the Book).
This was followed in 2000 "Those were the Good Old Days"
With the script prepared and the music selected, rehearsals begin as earnestly as can be expected in Tayvallich, on the stage in the village Hall as soon after New Year as recovery permits. The Hall is well used by the community and is carefully maintained and upgraded.
Despite having few decent singers in the group, music always plays a big part in the shows.
Tayvallich has a wealth of creative talent, and, as in all small communities, when help is sought it is given. Artists paint backdrops, carpenters build props, and the cast, when not searching charity shops for size 12 stilettos and other obscurities, continue to discover skills they didn't know they had!
