Operating in a global market, we have become very aware of the rich diversification of natural resources that Scotland has. This has been the envy of our European neighbours for some time. The only frustration has been our inability to manage these resources.
We have seen the gradual plunder and demise of these unique resources down to a level where commercial activity is no longer viable!!! Why?!! With some very simple and logical measures, we could all transform this situation in a few years.
We all know that commercial fishing, sports and commercial diving have to be sustainable. All parties have to take responsibility for their own actions, as it all may have such a big effect on the marine ecology. This is why we fully support all the parties involved in this new initiative.
We sell shellfish throughout the world and we know the value of Scottish products and have worked hard to establish a network of consumers who appreciate the consistent quality of these products.
We also know that the export market in particular requires more and more of this top quality product. Customers are now more discerning and request more of this quality. However, without a proper strategy or policy from the catch sector, we will not be able to expand and meet our customers' requirements. This again underlines the need for management and control of these valuable resources.
