Divers

random pictureIf you are reading this Congratulations! You are on the Scottish Creelers and Divers Association SCAD web site.

This is the divers section.

In the past commercial divers haven’t had any say in how the fishing industry has been run and have not been acknowledged by the powers that be.

SCAD think that this is wrong. We are a valuable asset to the industry and to local / rural communities and we are the ones that see first hand the damage and destruction that has been done to the seabed. This kind of destruction cannot go on and it is about time that it was brought to the attention of the government and the general public. However one or two divers shouting on there own gets know where. Joining SCAD gives you a voice that has to be listened to and you can put your views forward to the committee with the confidence that they will be taken seriously.

Joining together with your local creel fishermen will give you an even greater voice as we share many of the same problems and difficulties. However SCAD believe in enforcing the diving practices as laid down by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Some of the legal requirements are eg.

A copy of these laws can be given to you by SCAD or by telephoning the HSE.

We believe for the diving industry to be taken seriously we have to get rid of all illegal dive operations around our shores. We are not out to stop diving but to give all divers a level playing field so everybody is working within the same criteria.
